Any Good News Minutes?

Okay- Do you all get to hear that question each week in Relief Society? Well it's not Sunday, and we are not in Relief Society, however I finally have some good news to share. I have an interview tomorrow with the local sanitation department. Yes, this is what it has finally come to, I am overjoyed to possibly be employed with the local sanitation department. Don't hold your breath anyone, I will have to be selected from 40 or more other applicants. I kid you not. I am trying to get creative with ways to be noticed and remembered so that I might finally get a job. Have you ever watched the try outs for American Idol where people dress up in funny costumes and glitter? Well at this point I am seriously considering the glitter. If this job doesn't work out I may pitch the idea of a new reality TV show called "And the job goes to.......". It would document my life in rural Utah, applying for countless jobs just to find the position given to Uncle Joe or Cousin Bob, or better yet Best friend Betty. Believe me now, if you ever consider moving to the country, make sure you have a job first. Don't get me wrong, we really do love it here, however some days I wonder what in the heck was Ithinking?

Laila Update

I have had some interest as to the well being of our little chicken Laila. To my embarrassment, her name is not Laila it is Leela(not exactly sure how you should spell that). Chelsea corrected me quite sternly. Any who, Leela is doing wonderfully. Beside a few minor poo removal procedures all seems to be well. She is growing nicely and is now about 3/4 the size of the other chicks instead of 1/2 the size. I am such a proud farmer Mom right now I can't even tell you. Leela is the tan and brown chick staring at the camera in between the two black chicks. I can't believe how fast they grow, they are already getting their grown up feathers. We are working on the construction of a large chicken coop, it will be nice to get them into a permanent home.

Zoey, our puppy, is growing larger by the day as well. Chelsea does a great job of cleaning up after her and keeping her fed and watered.
Chelsea says that Zoey's favorite treat is ice cubes in her water bowl. Zoey has now learned to sit, lay, shake, and we are working on rolling over. Unfortunately STAY means absolutely nothing to her, and her favorite game is keep away. She loves to find random objects that belong to us outside, such as work gloves, and run for her life.

Who's Your Farmer?

We have now been in Annabella for nearly one year, we are trying to keep up with the farmer way of life here which at times is quite a challenge. We got ourselves a "Coon Hound", well really she's just a Shepherd/Lab mix, but she is lots of fun. We are finally pickin' up on the Red Neck twang, and shop at the local Wal-Mart whenever finances permit. Fitting in isn't so hard after all. Cory single handedly planted two whole rows of corn to add to Grandpa Davis' four rows, so we'll be eating well this fall. We spent over 3 hours weeding the garden Monday morning, the first batch of corn is coming up quite nicely.

Our latest venture is the addition of 8 baby chicks, OH SO CUTE! The kids are super excited, they named each one although I can't figure how they tell them apart. We have had the chicks for one week and they all seem to be growing nicely except for one. When we first got the chicks the kids commented that one, I think her name is Laila, had some poop stuck on her bum, I didn't think much of it and let it go. As Cory and I watched the chicks the other day I noticed how small Laila was and then realized she was the one with the poop problem, her bum was totally covered and matted with poop. Okay- this is NOT fun anymore. About midnight not being able to sleep, I got on the internet and found that if your chick cannot poop it will DIE. I stayed up an additional hour and a half trying to soak the chicks bum, get the poop off, apply neosporin, and dry the poor thing with the heat lamp. If this chick dies it will be quite devastating. I purchased an antibiotic from the local IFA(those people at IFA cringe when they see me coming), however I am unsure if it is the correct treatment, I might wait for Grandpa Davis to come down this weekend and figure it out. He is a real farmer, and he is real smart.

Summer is finally here. The kids are out of school enjoying all the fun activities. Our neighbors, The Colt's, invited us to the Paiute Reservoir Monday for FHE(or Family away from Home Evening as I call it). It was a lot of fun, I had my first canoeing experience which was hilarious. Chelsea brought her puppy and the Colt's brought their 4 dogs which they train, they all had fun in the water and playing and retrieving decoys. It is fun to live close to so many outdoor recreation areas. For Father's day we drove over the mountain and stopped for a picnic. It was so beautiful, we are looking forward to camping soon. Anything to get the kids away from those pesky video games.
